Dendrobium loddigesii 'Crownpoint'

I went to Carolina Orchids last year to pick up some unusual Bulbophyllum species, and while I was walking around the greenhouses with Tom I commented in amazement at their huge specimen Den. loddigesii in bloom. He turned to the workbench behind him, reached into a big plastic bucket, and handed me a large tangle of loddigesii trimmings.

I mounted two of the clumps on cork and put the other one in a basket. Two I gave away to friends and kept one of the mounts. Not a ton of blooms this year, but it's still one of my favorites!

Beautiful. I just got one myself. I am new to dendrobium growing. May I ask, how do you water your mounted loddigesii?? I have a cork mounted plant with no moss. I find it is drying even with a good spray once or twice a day. I am trying to keep it quite moist and humid now that it is getting toward summer.
Do you trim the yellow wilted canes??

Thanks for looking, Stephen! I hope you enjoy growing yours, this is one of my favorite species.

If it's not staying wet enough you could tie some sphagnum over the roots using fishing line, panty hose, or plastic gutter guard. These Dens like abundant moisture while they're actively growing.

You could also try soaking the whole mount in a bucket of water for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times per week instead or in addition to spraying it.

Don't trim off any canes until they're totally dead and shriveled to little sticks. The old pseudobulbs continue to photosynthesize and store water and nutrients for years past their blooming and loss of leaves. Hope this helps!

I've just bought one as well (it's part of the spring project this year) and mine will also be mounted. I've not got it yet though, tracking tells me it's on the plane on it's way to me

Anyway, Stephen I would suggest you need to do more than just spray it daily. I soak my mounted Milt either daily or twice daily and I'm planning to do something similar with this. I put my Milt, mount and all, in the sink while I'm getting ready for work and leave it 'face down' in there for at least 15min sometimes half an hour. Pulling it out just before I go to work.

Yes, I have begun to be more aggresive with soaking the mount. I hope to see some active growth soon. Thanks for the info.
