How nice! I picked one up at the Tamiami Show in Jan or Feb. I was told they can be a little challenging to get them to flower. Please keep us posted as it opens. Thanks

I found it available at Parkside Nursery and it used to be available at Natts Orchids and J&L Orchids.

Didn't have time to e-mail them to see if they still had them in inventory.

Parkside has 3" pot - $25.
Natts had them 2" pot - $15 (a couple years ago)
J&L had them 3" pot - $20 (but not showing on their current inventory list)

One more update, then going to slow down so I don't spam the forum...I will be posting a consolidate progress report here though:

vineur.com

But here's 2 more photos from Day 3

Had a few folks ask some details about our growing area...more details HERE

@Cal
D300 + 105mm 2.8D...I use CLS to pop an SB600 with a large diffuser on it...1/250th at F32 ISO 200

@Shady
They sure are...Although I think there was some serious hybridization going on with those two.
Orange -> Sun Valley Dragon Fruit
Pink -> Pacific Rose Pink Moment

Wife just spent an hour replacing the growing medium - she found centipedes and little ugly bulbous critters crawling around inside <shiver>...

@FLHiker
That ghost orchid in your signature...simply amazing...do you have one? I may have to pick your brain on your growing conditions if you do...

As for the challenge...this whole setup was put together just keep two bonsai alive if you can believe it...Now that it's warmer though - they're outside and the orchids get more space to grow

Mochaboy,

I just read some of your blog...That is too freaky.

I have a minor in old style film photography (almost), I ballroom dance as one of my other hobbies, and my parents were into fly fishing when I was a child.

It's a small world. Good luck with your Tango lessons!

I can't wait to get my Den...I'm so excited.

I tried a couple seedlings with no success. The Photo is of the first one I ever seen in the wild. I think I have a couple better ones in my gallery. Its time now for them to start spiking and I'm heading out tomorrow to check a couple dozen or so.

With my moderator hat on I just want to say by all means post a consolidated report if you want but don't worry about posting lots of pics here. We like pics and it is not spamming to post pictures relevant to the thread/forum even if you post lots. Pics of orchids are always good here.

That's good to hear Rosie...I try to be mindful of the rules of different forums. There's no shortage of orchid photos out on the internet, but what I discovered was that there were very few documenting the moments leading up to the big reveal.

For an event, that in some cases only happens once a year (if that), I couldn't resist the opportunity to have everyone come along for the ride. Besides, we wouldn't have gotten this far if not for the deluge of information the more experienced growers have willingly shared.

So here are two more from day 5...
Progress Report

A close up

And one for scale

Will check back in in another 4 or 5 days (busy week up ahead)

Cheers!

From one picture taker to another - I can't wait to see them

Here's the latest ...I think this should be about day 8. We're starting to see the miniature bud emerging now, and how that little thing is going to morph into that green and red beauty is beyond me...but I can't wait!

By the way, that yellowing leaf you see in the portrait shot a post or two above - it's definitely on its way out, but based on what we've read here, we suspect the plant is diverting resources to pushing that flower bud out. Absolutely fascinating things these orchids.

Seem to have picked up some sensor dust...will have to attend to that..
