why are the leaves yellow??
Hi guys ,
please can someone help me , i have recently bought a dendrobium aberrance mini orchid and i have mounted in on a piece of thick grape vine wood to go in my reptile terranium, i have used spagnum moss to surround the roots and have tied the plant on gently to hold it in place with a little moss to pad the plant from the twine, the temperature i am keeping it in is around 79-80 degrees F with a drop at nigh by around ten degrees and high humidity at around 70% created by an external humidifier gently blowing into the terranium every hou or so for ashort time, i mist spray the plant in the morning and at nighg with filterd water and i have fed it witha diluted orchid grow feed, thne thing is i have noticed two of the leaves have turned bright yellow, the other leaves are fine so far and are dark green, is it ok ????why have they done this, as i really like this plant and dont want it to die...am i doing anything wrong??

Hi, I'm afraid I don't really know, except to say that the temp sounds quite warm, but I don't know if that is right for that den.
Hopefully someone else with more knowledge will chime in soon.

My "guess" from my experience with dendrobiums, is that it is probably stress from the repotting and a new environment. Dend. in general like sun, humidity, and heat....so I don't think that is the problem. I think it's just the initial changes you've made and it will be okay. Also, when my dend. leaves yellow here, it means that I'm not giving it enough water. (I have a few mounted too). So if yours continues to have yellowing leaves, it may be that. I honestly doubt it where it's in such a great place with lots of humidity etc. Yup, initial stress would be my guess, and it will adjust. Good luck!

Hi,
I'm quite agree with Kiki. From my own experience, it is very often that orchids who are in a new environment are loosin a few leaves. Even in Thailand, where Dendros find a good environment, it's happen to me often. I think it will stop soon. If not, you have to change some of your culture parametres.
