Your cane is to old to perform buds . Buds stem comes out quickly and this kind of cane produce a kerki .

I brought mine in from the cold studio last weekend, and gave them both a good watering. They were both in about the same stage as yours Cam. A couple days later the buds were literally exploding out of the sheaths. I do think you can wait too long to water too. A couple of nubbins on mine dried up. I also have a new cane started so didn't want to jeopardize the new growth.

Carol, I think yours needs brighter light than what it gets in the garage.

Dunno about how long it actually takes from nubbin to bloom. My buds are still forming. But, what I'm pretty sure about is NOT to water until the buds have really formed. I also have new cane growth that started peeking out before my nubbins were very far along. But I am continuing to withhold the water. And it seems to be doing just fine. Let's see those pics of yours and take a good look at those nubbins!

Hmm...well, Terri...you're starting to make me paranoid about whether or not I should start mine on a little bit of water.... I don't want my buds and still expanding nubbins to dry up!

Yvan, I think with some of the newer hybrids you don't have to be quite as harsh when withholding water. I watered both of mine probably once or twice in a 3 1/2 month period. I just ran and looked at them and they are most definitely buds. If you have more than one plant it would be interesting to experiment and see if it really makes any difference. Maybe I'll try it next year.

We had a guy give a talk about Dens at our local society a few months ago and he said as soon as the nubbin pokes through the cane you were safe to water, and bring it back inside. It's very confusing. There is so much conflicting information out there about successfully blooming nobiles. Unfortunately most of it's anecdotal.

Hmm...well, I think the majority of my nubbins are fairly well along to being buds. So, perhaps I'll start gradually re-introducing the water.

So true about how confusing the Dens are. And they are just so seductive!

This is my first dendro, a nobile. It isn't doing anything. However, it does look healthy. Have to look on the bright side here.....I haven't killed it yet!
