Dendrobium Anosmum questions
Default Dendrobium Anosmum questions

Hello, several months ago I posted my first questions here about my two Dendrobium Anosmum orchids. This is an update on what has transpired since:

I acquired two plants in March 2021 and they were in bloom. After the flowers died, two new canes emerged in each pot. I watered and fertilized them until November, and then stopped both.

The canes didn't grow as long as the canes from the year before, but I was okay with that since this was my first time. December was a warm month and I started watering again. I obviously messed up their care (I'm thinking it was too much watering) because the leaves never dropped.

In April of this year, after I realized I was not going to have any flowers, I started watering again. The 4 canes that had bloomed flowers last year were now sprouting keikis like crazy. I have about 20 keikis total from the 4 canes.

I had hoped that when I lessened the water going into Winter again this year, that the four canes that should have dropped their leaves last Winter, would drop them this Winter. I figured the whole process would just be delayed by a year, but now I see the leaves that never dropped are now forming roots, too.

I just want to try and get my orchids back on the proper cycle. Can you offer any insight?

Thank you!!

There are a lot of Web pages offering advice on this plant. I would stop fertilizing earlier in the year (maybe early September?) and try and give it cool temperatures in winter, but nowhere near freezing.

Thanks for your reply and I hope I am responding the right way as I'm not finding this site too easy to use.

I have been researching these orchids since last year, and you are right, there are many pages offering information on this plant. However, I have not found these issues on any of them, so I have tried different orchid sites hoping someone would know.

Did you also re-start fertilizer with the water in December? If you did, that will get them throwing kieki's for sure.

I dont stop watering all together in the fall but I cut it back by at least 2/3 I bet. What I do totally stop in the fall is fertilizer and I don't resume that until end of the flowering period and new growth starts.
