Berniece's first is kind of a dissapointment
I've heard that sometimes the first flowering will produce some wierd ones-- here goes: Phaph with sort of all in one petals. This upper part should be three petals, but it is one large petal. I hope the other flowers are a bit more "ordinary." Otherwise the flower won't be that ugly. The mohogeny type color is nice and bright, and the stripes and so on are fairly well defined. (Hoping for better things in the next week when the rest open!)
Oh and notice that there are 2 white petals, not one. This is truly a frankenflower!

It looks more like a Paph or Phrag than a Phal! How weird!

Your correction makes me feel much better, though. I kept looking at the bloom and wondering...how could a Phal look like THAT no matter how messed up?

Hope for better next year. I will let her just go through this naturally. I think the color is decent. I see that there is another flower in there that looks like this one. It is just the draw from the genetic lottery.

Is this Paph. Berenice? (lowii x philippenense)? I have one, yet to bloom. Hope it improves as it should be a nice one.
