Driving back last weekend from the CAIOS Show in Cape Cod, along HWY I90W, we decided to visit the legendary A&P Orchids. Since the owner Mustafa wasn't there, his son Amir kindly showed us their solar powered GH's, sale plants and private areas. I was impressed at the massiveness of the operations. There were hundreds, possibly thousands, of flowering Paphiopedilum complex hybrids in bloom! They were gearing up for their open house this weekend.
After much looking I decided on one of the new type of 'teacup' Paph complex. It had compact purpled bordered leaves with 4 new growths and the cutest dark burgundy brown round flowers. I'll let you all decide the colors in the following pics.
I think it has so many great qualities including compact growth (leaf span 10 inch total, large to ratio flowers about 11 cm NS, on short stem), aka teacup size (larger complex may have leaves up to 10-12 inches long EACH).
Hope you all in NE USA go visit this weekend for the open house!
Happy hunting
