Can you re-flower a paphiopedilum quickly?
Default Can you re-flower a paphiopedilum quickly?

Evening all.

I just picked up a slightly damaged Paph from the garden center. the the Stem had been damaged so the flower started to wilt. I cut the stem close to where it starts. It had come loose out of its pot too, so i re-potted into same pot, adding a dash of coir and perlite.

I wanted to know weather she would flower this year again, if i could put her under cfl lighting for 18/6 maybe to trick her.

thanks.

A new growth will have to grow and mature. How often they bloom depends on how fast they can mature growths...

Each new growth will flower once whenever it is ready, sometimes when it is mature, sometimes before, depending on the plant. If your plant has growths that haven't bloomed it could flower again soon, though it can take several months from the first sign of a spike until it flowers. You don't say what kind of Paph it is, but most are not strongly seasonal, so long days or short days or whatever will not 'trick' it. Just give it good care and some time, and whenever a new growth is ready it will flower.

There are no tricks.

They will flower whenever they want. lol

Without knowing what you have, paphs should bloom once a year given that you have a mature plant.
Some many bloom more often, again, I don't know what paph you have.

Hi, thanks for the advice.
It does have smaller leaves shooting up from the base.

it looks like this.

thanks.

so where the spike came out and flowered, will it never come flower from there again? Should i keep it in a smaller pot to keep her flowering?

Where the spike came from won't flower again. The new leaves sprouting from the bottom will form a new fan, and when that's ready it will flower.

How quickly it flowers depends on how well developed those new leaves are so far. The sort you have (Maudiae type) are one of the faster growing paphs in my experience.
