Thanks Terry. I have yet to learn that what I may feel is pretty spectacular may not be so in the judges eyes. In that respect, I won a Best in Class Trophy for a maxillaria that I wasn't even going to send to the show....Funny. I will post a picture of it in a bit where it belongs on the forum. It made up for my disappointment with the St. Swith...

Ribbon judging is rather subjective, and it is hit or miss whether anyone else brings in plants in the same categories, where your plants are entered.

Having said that, even if your plant is the only one entered, that does not guarantee a first. If judges feel that the plant could be bigger, have more flowers or has some blemish on leaves, etc., they can decide to award no firsts, and only 2nd or 3rds.

Do not let the capriciousness of the antiquated judging system hold you back. You grew it, and you should show it off - whether the graybeards can appreciate it or not.
