Accidentally bought 5 Paphs from an orchid festival. All of them were going cheap because they have already finished flowering and I felt sorry for them because I didnt think anyone else would buy them.

So what on EARTH do I do now. They look like they need repotting but what in?? And the roots are browny coloured. Is that normal? And how do I get them to flower again? Whats a normal amount of time to wait for a reflower Why the hell did I buy so many when I already have no space at all??!

hahahahahaaa! they followed you home huh? yes the roots are supposed to be brownish and hairy....repot them in a fine bark mix, i suggest buying something specially for paphs or seedling orchids.....try repotme.com or some such online supplier....they will make new 'fans' and bloom from them, the old 'fans' provide strength to the roots....gl and enjoy!

Each "fan" of a paph blooms only once. If you keep the plant healthy it will grow new growths (fans) and those with then bloom. Take a deep breath and relax. You, and they, will be fine.

Well I had 2 already that are doing fine (I had no idea they only flower once from each fan). And one of them has been flowering for about 3 months so I must be doing something right!! On closer inspection 2 of the new ones are growing new fans! WooHoo! Do I keep the old fans?

God its so exciting isn't it??

Yes, keep the old fans in place. They support the new ones as they grow. If the one has been in bloom for that long, it must be a sequential. Not all of them are. Some have many flowers at once and others only produce one. I found all this out after getting my first few paphs. At first I was very disappointed, but now I accept it and am still collecting them. If you have 2 that are doing well, don't worry, you should do fine by the new ones. Do they have names?

One is a Kelten Zauber. Not sure about the other one and these new ones are all just "wait and see" orchids!
