The specs are a burgundy or dark red colour.

Brachy is short for Brachypetalum which is one of the sections that fall under the umbrella of Paphiopedilum (is that a good description?)

As for culture, I grow outside for most of the year so I can't recommend what might work for you but I'm sure there are people here that can help.

Thanks! I was at our orchid society mtg yesterday and one was on display, but it looked like black specks...I'll have to check into it more closely before I purchase it.
