I grow several Brachies (and Parvies) in S/H - some pieces of Dolomit stones included in the pots, and have found they do better in small pots. However, I decided to experiment and set some of them back to bark medium (Paph. concolor was not doing very well in S/H - I also changed Paph bellatulum and this is also doing A LOT better), and they are doing a lot better, so,probably I will end up moving all of them back to bark...

Default Snow?

Thanks Canuck for reminding me of what I left behind when I moved to Malaysia. Much easier to grow orchids here ........ good enough reason to move!

That depends on the orchids though Gordon. Not all orchids are easier to grow there. I am sure the warmer growing paphs would be though.

Snow, No brachy's but I tried a lowii in s/h and after a year of not much happening, put back into bark. On the other hand all my phals and oncidium intergenerics are in s/h and grow like weeds. I also had a Saint Swithin cross in s/h and the darn thing got rot and died in about 3 days. I think(know) that was my bad culture and not the s/h.
You would think s/h is tailor made for Paphs seeing that they like to stay on the moist side. I think the low humidity in my growing area for most of the year is why my Paphs don't take to s/h. The pellets can't stay moist enough on the upper end of the pot. Ramon may have the answer- use smaller pots!

I have tried several pot sizes, and found by chance that the smaller pots are better for Brachies.. as Bill pointed out, the LECA on teh top stays moist for longer periods...

As I mentionned, all my Brachies are doing very well in S/H (except Paph. concolor), however I have the feelning that under my conditions they do much better in Bark...

Other Paphies are doing great in S/H, as well as other plants I have...
