My phaphs are sluggish

Hi
I have three paphs, two mature, and a seedling. They arent dying, but they don't seem to be doing much in terms of growth. I have them in sphagnum, and water them before they dry out completely. The roots aren't dead either, but they arent growing much.

Does anyone have any tips?

Depending on your growing conditions, growing them in sphagnum moss is the major problem. Very few growers have success growing anything this way. I think a repot into semi-hydro or a bark, charcoal, sponge rock or similar mix would be more beneficial and the plants will accept food a lot better.

My paph did the same thing in bark. I have all my other types of orchid in sphag as well. They really like it. I thought that it was because maybe my plants were being kept too dry, but I'm not sure, I don't know much about paphs. Do they hate sphag like tolumnias can't grow in s/h, or did you mean that sphag is hard to use in general?

Generally sphagnum moss is not an excepted growing medium because plants don't usually grow well in it unless the growing conditions are just right. If your plants aren't growing then I would suspect that they are too dry constantly or not enough, light, warmth, food or a combination of all. How are you growing them ?

Hmm well I would say that they may be too dry. I have them in a south facing window. They get bright light, but they are shaded by the plants that need bright light- my oncs and dens. They get a very light feeding with almost every watering. They probably have a 25 degree C daytime temperature.

What style of Paphs are they please, complex hybrid, multi florals, sequential flowers, species.

One is Paph Honey, and the other is a noid I bought this past winter at home depot. It is not a complex hybrid, but it has multiple white flowers, but I know its also not a species. I have a pic on the right side bar at the bottom of my blog page (the link below) this post.

Oh and yes, I thought that the white paph is Deperle as well, but you never know with all the hybrids available these days
