Hybrid Cypripedium
Just back from a trip to Vermont looking for native orchids.
Learned that everything is blooming about two weeks early this year including the Cyps cultivated by Don and Lela Avery of Cady's Falls Nursery in Morrisville. This is a hybrid between Cyp. macranthos and kentuckiense. It's worth a visit to their website as they have wonderful pictures of Cyps as well as cultural information.

Those are great! I really like the display they make.

whoa! Thanks for the tip!
I did not know about this place and live within an easy drive!
I'm going to try to go the first day they open! wooooot!
The drive (VT 100) is absolutely stunning, and here's a wonderful excuse to take it! There are many famously beautiful waterfalls along that route, as the Mad River works its way down out of the green mountains and into the valley. There's even a secret spot that is absolutely spectacular, with smooth granite slides, pools, and drops. One of the best swimming holes in the USA. It's a bit dangerous at that spot so small children are not a great idea.

I found out about Cady's Falls from Sue Holmes who runs Kimball House B&B in Hardwick. That's a great place to stay if you want to be in the area for a day or two. I'd be interested in the places along VT 100 you mentioned - I think I took that road during my trip to Vermont last summer lots of twists and turns and frost heaves if I remember correctly.

Wow! That's crazy - I live in Williston and I've never heard of these guys. How much were those Cyps running? I'd love to pick up a few... will definitely check them out.
Thanks for the post

They sell at the nursery only. I have a catalog from last year, but Cyps are not listed with a price..they are probably "as marked at the nursery". This is what they have for Cyps: candidum; guttatum; kentuckiense; macranthos x kentuckiense (Philip); parviflorum v. pubescens; reginae and reginae f. albolabium. Plan on spending several hours at the nursery and their gardens.
Open the 1st Sat. in May. Hours: May and June 10 am to 5 pm. Closed Mondays. July & Aug 10 am to 5 pm, Closed Sun and Mon. Sept & Oct 10 am to 5 pm Mon thru Friday, closed weekends.
