help me choose a red phrag
Hi everyone, I've always fancy the intense red color of some phrag flower but I don't know how to grow them, I'm very new to the genus . I heard that phrag are really big, I'm just wondering how big they could get. Could any one help me find a compact/ mini red phrag that I can afford to put on an eastern windowsill. It would be great if you guys can post any picture that shows me the size of the plants I'm guessing Phrag. Jason Fischer is the most common? I just don't know how big they are. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

Have a look on Phrag. Jason Fischer. It's a relative compact plant with (for me so far ) the most intense red you can find in Phrags... Orchid of the Week Library: Phrag. Jason Fischer (3N)
Of course Phrag besseae has also very nice reds and is also a "compact" plant...
This is my Jason Fischer, so you can have an idea of the size. The black think on the background is a chair

It was a small pot, I think 3.5'' or so.. now, it is growing in S/H ( 5" pot). The whole plant is less than 10" high (without spike).

I will sure add it to my buying list. Also, I've come across Phrag. Fox Valley Fireball and loved it too ! Any one knows about this plant?
Thank you so so much Kavanaru, so it would be somewhat smaller than a standard cattleya. I can afford that!!

Hmmm... interesting, the second pic is not a hybrid, it's actually a variety of P. besseae. But yeah, the first pic is what I was looking at. Thanks for the recommendation though but I'm still going for the red color
Btw, Hausermann orchid is selling the Fox Valley Fireball for $35.....
Is P. besseae easy to grow? maybe I should just stick with Jason Fischer hehhe.....

Well, you two have gone and done it! I've been thinking of trying one of these for a while now, and after looking at the ones you posted, I'm a gonner. Thanks, I think.

Here's my Jason Fischer in bloom. The flower shape is a little odd for this cross but the color is great. The plant is pretty compact for a Phrag. Mine is a single fan growing in a 3" pot. It's just starting a new growth. I don't think there are any minis in the Phrag. world.
