Des, Would love to see a picture of the Disa cornuta if you have one. At least your son is interested in orchids mine is interested in tomatoes. At least after a day in a chemistry lab he moves dirt in the garden. Its good for him. Saving samples of our species and habitats is of interest to me but just a side interest. I wish I had more time for it. Was working in Connecticut years ago and a species of Lady Slipper was located which had been believed to be extinct. It was extinct soon afterward - people found out about the location and trampled them all to death.

ORCHIDS3- I can't lay my hands on a pic right now as a power spike blew my hard drive a few weeks ago and I lost all the pics i had taken over the last few months , that has taught me a lesson and some . I had also just about completed a presentation I am to give at our orchid society meeting in March So i have to start all over again . But not to worry I will find one and send it to you along with a pic of Satyrium Coriifolium which is also grows here

Hi,

I also have cymbidiums and they are turning yellow at the base. I was given them as a gift and repotted them about 8 months ago.

Glad you found us.

Do the pbulbs feel soft at all ? It's hard to tell from the pix - are the pbulbs buried? or just not developed? If buried, pull them up. Shouldn't be more than just a bit of the bottom of the pbulb buried in the potting media - I usually leave mine just above the media. I'd also recommend considerably smaller pots.

Hi Sonya,

thanks for the welcome, i am glad I found you as well.

I will check them when i get back home from work and also raise the bbulbs from the growing medium. Is it fine if i transfer them to smaller pots now? I am in South Africa and we are going into winter here.

Thanks

Devraj

Yes, raise the psuedobulbs so that just a bit at the bottom is in the media. I hope they are ok after having been buried in the media - that could be the cause of the yellowing. The p-bulbs should (hopefully) be firm. After getting the p-bulbs out of the media, I think that the pots they are in may be ok size-wise. I wasn't picturing that in my head.

If you need more help, or have other questions, let us know. You can go ahead and start a new thread/topic - will help you get more people looking at, and hopefully replying.
