Now it was in moss; BLUCK!!! Caused root rot in the middle. But still has good root systems...WHAT SHOULD I plant it in? I like lava rock w bark mix airation and no impaction...suggestions?

Wow, nice buy! I read it requires light shade, high humidity and temperature and well drained organic soil mixed with fiber (50% each). You shouldn't let it dry between waterings. I have my other cymbidium in medium bark chunks, and than one I got from kevin I did mix from hydroton pebbles, tree fern chunks and some bark. I guess go with your feelings:-)

I personally would use a mix of mostly medium fir bark with some fine bark (75% to 25%), Orchiata preferred, with 20% #3 Sponge rok, (perlite). I am totally turned off Lava rock of any kind. JUST DO NOT OVER POT! Basically treat it like a cattleya.

Now, I suspect you will get at least 6 different mixes to use! That is the nature of a Forum.

Mount 1 of them or put it a hanging basket. These can grow as an epiphyte, and you can appreciate the pendant flowers better

Cool!!! @Kevin_PR thats a neat idea I may try that when it warms up a bit more. Right now I want to get it adjusted to its new climate.

I grow mine in large orchiata bark. The pot should be deep as they create tap roots.

Kindrag lives in Texas. I think it best to know if she has high humidity and/or is growing outside all year before suggesting a mounting. Large mounted Cyms are very difficult to deal with in the house.

I grow them outside until it starts to get cold. Then I put them in our large back room at my nanas house where I put my humidifier and a propane heater is back there. So decent humidity but not the best compared to my little greenhouse.
