Thumbs up Cym Sunshine Falls 'Butterball'

Cymbidium Sunshine Falls 'Butterball' is a cross from Stewart registered in 1972 - an old timer like myself. The cross is Cym King Arthur x Cym madidum.

A big shout out to shadytrake !!

This was one of the free orchids that melissa sent out in April 2011. Melissa - Butterball likes the North Carolina beach weather

I had a friend who had a couple of strange shaped pots. They are 4" x 4" at the top. But most pots this size may be 4" high or 5" is considered a 'tall' pot. But these are a full 11" tall. And a sturdy black plastic. Great for young cym divisions. Even with that 11", the cym roots are coming out the bottom.

So I am looking for more of these TALL pots -- anyone ever see them -- what are they used for -- someone said pine tree seedling (long tap roots) ?

Thanks again melissa

That's lovely. Very cute 'Butterballs'! My Cyms are in tree or shrub pots. They come from nurseries when you buy a small tree or shrub. Maybe not the same deepness to width ratio as yours but round and fairly deep. Plants seem to be happy.

Lovely!

Like silken, I use plastic nursery pots; 1,2,3 gallons, depending on the size of the Cym. There are "Cymbidium pots" which are narrow and tall. I've seen some for sale from online vendor(s), but don't recall which. The Cym pots just blow over too easily for me (breezy where I live), and I also let my Cyms get bigger than Cym pots allow for.

Awesome! So glad you got it to bloom. I kept a couple of cyms to try again to bloom them and no such luck. It's just too warm here.

Thumbs up Beach Vacation

Melissa,

Anytime you wish to send them on vacation to the beach, let me know

Thanks again.

Charlie

PS The flowers still look fresh - 2 months now. My wife has them on her table in the sun room where she sits and reads One of her favorite orchids.
