Well, I just got back from my four day trip. This cymbidium lost more than half of its bloom. They pretty much turned brown and dead.
I am thinking of cutting the not so dirty looking flowers for the vase and then dump the whole plant. one, it is taking up way too much space, and two, I'm scared of potentail spread of whatever it has.
I didn't like how they looked but this is just terrible in just a matter of a few days! I'm also quite upset about the money I spent on it. Maybe I should just get cymbidium cut flower which is much cheaper and much higher quality, and pretty long lasting from my past experience. After all, I grow plants for enjoying flowers!
All my other orchids are fine except the Gold Girl, which is also one of the latest purchase, but has major leaf issues. well, well, well....

That's the risk with buying a Cym in bloom, the open flowers don't last very long when they are suddenly moved to a warmer place. That's the issue with any orchid bought in bloom, you never know how it will react.
Anyway, if you buy just to end up tossing the plant each time, I agree it's better to stick with cut flowers!

Aww, too bad you're not keeping it, it's stunning.
But it's probably better for you to be able to sleep well at night rather than worry excessively. Maybe you'll be able to find a similar Cymbiduim in the future when you've gotten your hands on those virus-testing thingies. I certainly hope you do 'cause it was gorgeous.

Most serious orchid hobbyist growers, me included, no longer buy or grow "no name" orchids, which is what you have. However, if you enjoy the flowers, can use the plant as a learning experience and the price is right for the purchase in the first place, it is a good way to start.
Given everything you have said since my last post, I would would agree with your idea to cut the flowers, toss the plant and put your mind at ease. Learn from the experience. I still doubt there is anything wrong with the plant, but you have spent way too much time fretting about it. If you were in a temperate climate, it could be put out into the yard all year long and allowed to grow naturally. But you do not have the luxury of space or an environment for that ..... or for a plant that seems to continue to bother you.

thanks, everyone!
I just toss the cymbidium and washed my hands real good!
Kinda sad about the loss, but I can sleep in peace now.
I almost bought another cymbidium (beautiful light green with white lips) on my way home from work, but ended up buying three little orchids, which I will post pictures of shortly after this post.
