a Big OLD Cym..where to start>?

got a pre bloomed out cym cheap cheap cheap..18 bulbs and 6 new ones growing and actually looks great fir an orchid that usually gets the "crap in a pot" rating from me..what do I with it now?

I heard/read, so much out there hard to really nail down a plan.

Put it outside in the sun but not direct light. water it a lot while in active growth with fertilize heavy..Im a doing okey so far?

I get some pictures I know you all like pictures..Not having pictures of a plant is like reading porno in the dark

The first thing to do is to repot it. There are numerous threads on this part of the Forum for you to start with. If you still have problems that were not addressed, come on back with the specific question. A photo of your plant would also help.

I'm always confused by the "indirect" light recommended frequently for many orchids - I'm thinking my definition of "direct" or "indirect" light must be different than other people's ...

any hoo - my cyms take full sun in the morning - and with the sun getting higher in the sky, that's full sun all morning. I've only had a couple burn when they weren't acclimated. It may be they don't need quite as much sun as mine get - idk, hopefully other's will chime in - but they are not delicate, and can take quite a bit of sun. Mid-day sun, especially in summer, should be avoided. If it's extremely hot, shade, especially in afternoon, is recommended.

Media should not be allowed to dry out. And they do like their fertilizer, for better blooming.

My Cym last year got full sun most of the morning and into early afternoon. I'm sure Camille said hers did too.

I didn't have a problem and I'll be putting the two I now have into the same place once it's warm enough this year.

I did hear recently that some species of Cyms don't like so much light, but that most like it quite bright, and like lots of water (but well draining).

I went back today to look at the 2 cyms they have left one was still somewhat blooming, and are the hideous copper bronze metallic look. Color isnt important the 10 dollars for it was great for a plant to try to grow again. We all know what I did to the 1st cym I had..ouch!! crunch!!

I dont whine and cry much anymore they are just plants afterall.

I measured it from bottom of pot to top of longest leaf is 40+inches..the widest span across the plant is 68+" .....its in a 12 inch pot and needs a bathtub...


In fact let me tell you what else I brought home!!! I didnt see these when I got the cym but they had a phaius tankervilleae grandiflora half price for 15 bucks and it has 2 spikes over 5 ft long and about 35 blooms is all thats left it smellls really nice!! Nun orchid is what said on the tag but a search on the web shows it to be a phaius tankerville grandiflora..

also found a brassia rex blooming with 2 spikes and 19 (9) inch span spiders..The bulbs on this pup are bigger than my hand. Its also in the 3ft tall plus range. 6 new growths...It wasnt on sale but the 30% off coupon and the other great deal olffset the price of the brassia.
Ive done well with my 1 brassia hialeah..Its a lot smaller but I done well thanks to you all!!
