I haven't had much success with Icho Tower 'Trinity' as a good bloomer here in Hawaii, but the cross of Icho Tower with Karen 'Maize' has produced some very nice spikes from a nice yellow to a yellow orange highlight bright flower with a nice tall spike

Bob,

How many of this cross have you bloomed? Do you notice a problem with excess cupping on any others you have bloomed?

Not really. This one was slightly cupped in the photo as I took the photo when it wasn't completely opened (remember I sell cut flowers so I try to sell them as young as possible for the shelf life of the customer buying them. Often that means my photos are of plants that still have a bit to go before completely opening. What was unusual about this one was there was more orange to the yellow than most of the others. Most were very deep yellow with a contrasting red lip and nice spikes. I have another that was a Karen 'Maize' by Avranches and it was almost identical in color except the lip was not marked quite as solid a line, being more diffuse in the separation between the red and the yellow. I like the yellow orange two tone effects and have been selecting them because they stand out in the light here in Hawaii.

I'd say at this point I've bloomed maybe 25-30% of the flask and yes these are from Orquideas

Breed Icho Tower 'Trinity' to almost any good yellow or orange and you will get intense yellows and some oranges. Look for it as a parent when searching for nice yellows. I am sure there are some who may disagree with my statement, but that is the a game of hybridizing. The three crosses I have made and bloomed out to date as well as new crosses of other's coming into bloom, tend to prove my theory.
