Sphagnum is just some extra top dressing, something to keep moisture in. The plant itself is potted in pure inorganic mix of pumice, lava rocks and perlite, no bark.

Bark and perlite would be just fine though. Just watch out for black rot! Constant air movement is very important.

It is just the color. The flower itself is standard goeringii flower...with glossy, thick and firm texture.
