The virescens seems to be very cool growing. A friend of mine here who had a very cool Masdevallia house (night temps around 45f) grew it very well indeed. Twice the size I have seen since. There is a sister species as well Coelogyne parishii. Very hard to tell the flowers apart.

It is not uncommon that our winter temps go as down as 43ºF in the night, especially in the dawn, David. Spring and fall temps are intermediate. The major problem would be the summer, but my plant seems to be well adapted

Well, I seem to be out of suggestions. You could spray it with gibberilic Acid, but besides the fact that is cheating it will also give you distorted flowers (and might even kill the plant) . Seriously their has to be something missing but I am at a loss

No, thanks, David, gibberelin (or similar hormones) is something I really don't want to deal with. One must be very careful with such a thing!
