coelogyne marmorata or any warm coelogyne growing tips needed

Thanks for the pix. I recently acquired an Coelogyne Ovalis from someone in Houston TX. I think it was grown too hot, but I've got a shady area and right now the fall weather is perfect so its outside. Hopefully it will bloom with the next season

This is a spring bloomer, but it also bloomed for me in the early winter.

Coelogyne is one of my favorites.

Attached is a pic of my speciosa. its still in bloom, but the flower is fading away. The secondary bud is swelling and looks promising. Last year, only the primary bud bloomed. There are 2 more spikes behind this one.

Also attached is a massangeana i purchased recently. Im not supposed to be buying big stuff do to space, but the seller cut me a deal, and i couldnt pass it up. When it someday blooms, ill post pics.

My Coelogyne velutina is warm growing. It des not like direct sunlight as the leaves burn easely, in fact the leaves likes to be sprayed often as they have cells in the leaves that will absorbe the water. I keep mine moist all of the time, and of what I can understand I likes a lot of fertilizer as it is a fast grower. It likes a lot of water, but it does not like soggy conditions

Coelogyne marmorata is an easy species to grow and flower. I grow mine in a greenhouse with all my other orchid species. Temps range from about 5C on a really cold winter morning to about 36C on a hot summer's day. I grow it in a clay pot in pine bark (Pinus radiata) topped with a layer of sphagnum moss. I grow other Coelogyne species as well but they are scattered throughout the greenhouse. Coelogyne speciosa and Coelogyne fimbriata coming into flower now. Coelogyne becarii and Coelogyne tomentosa (syn Coelogyne massangeana) just finished. A botanist in the Netherlands has done some work on the Coelogyne fimbriata group and she has sunk Coelogyne ovalis into Coelogyne fimbriata as well as another (?Coelogyne fuliginosa). I think that they are different. If I can figure out how to do it I will post a picture of my Coelogyne marmorata.

I have not yet mastered the art of attaching a photo from my album in the Gallery to a message. Perhaps somebody can explain how to do this? Maybe I should have hit the "Add a link" button instead of hitting the "Insert Image" button which I did and I got a website address to my album in the Gallery. So if you go to that address you will see the picture in my album in the Gallery.

Mike, click on your image that you want to insert link, then scroll down below the image. You'll see a wide white boc with "insert URL" as a label. Click once on the stuff in the box. Click <ctrl><C> for copy then go back to your thread entry and do a <Ctrl><V> for paste. That should paste in a link to the gallery thumbnail.

Your picture labelled as Coelogyne ovalis looks more like Coelogyne barbarta to me. I cannot see the flower spike just below the first flower but Coelogyne barbarta would have tightly overlapping bracts belwo the first flower which would be absent in coelogyne ovalis. further I seem to think your photo shows more than one flower open on the spike which again would be unlike Coelogyne ovalis which is a greenish ochre colour (not white like your flowers) and usually has one flower open at a time.

I realy hope I can show pictures of my Coelogyne and that it will flower for me. They are so lovely. I grow all my plant in the flat. I take them outdoor anytime I can.
