I love Green Hair 'pig,' it is on my bucket list. I like the Digbyana crosses. I will soon receive a mature division of B. Aristocrat (glauca ' Jumbo' x digbyana ' Mrs.Chase' AM/AOS). I cannot wait for the beautiful scent. I may just keep that one in the house after it blooms!

Did they use Rhyncholailea digbyana fimbripetala as a parent or grandparent? That beautiful fringing of the petals suggests fimbripetala.

Rlc. Golf Green is C. Moscombe x Rl. digbyana. The hybrid registration wouldn't show if Rl. digbyana f. frimbipetala was used, but in this case it wouldn't be necessary. C. Moscombe is a big splash petal Catt. Slash petals and the petal fringe seen here and in f. fimbripetala are different expressions of the same kind of genes that make the petals emulate the lip to variable extent. The fringy petals of 'Hair Pig' are probably due to the strong splash petal characteristics of C. Moscombe in a first generation hybrid of Rl. digbyana, without the need to assume f. frimbipetala was involved.

In have a Rlc. Golf Green Hair Pig that is quite big and looks healthy, but doesn't flower. I don't have this problem with the other cattleyas standing next to it on the windowsill. Are there any particular care requirements for this plant in order to convince it to bloom?

With Rl. digbyana as a parent rather than further back in the wncestry, it may need more light than most Catts. If it is healthy and of a mature size for blooming move it to where it gets more light. If you fertilize regularly you should also reduce the fertilizer this one gets, or at least reduce the amount of nitrogen. More light and less fertilizer is good general advice for mature healthy Catts that don't bloom, but especially for Rl. digbyana crosses.

Thank you! I will try this and I really hope it will work, especially as I have bought the plant without flowers and I have never seen it in bloom.

This is the only clone of this cross I have seen. Did pod siblings look anything like this one, or is it a far outlier?
