Cattleya dowiana
I am so thrilled the C. dowiana I bought a few months ago at Kawamoto has bloomed with two flowers. It is C. dowiana x self, and has a rosy glow. I read in an old thread that this cross is advertised as "apricot" colored. I have lusted after the Rosita variety, and this one is not as "rosy" as Rosita, but I'll take it! I also have a variety 'aurea' that will bloom in a few days, so it will be interesting to compare the two. These have been my most desired cats for a while, so I am so happy to have them blooming!
(The pics by phone do not do the colors justice.)

Fantastic!!! You grow under lights? What's your secret to keep them robust and blooming?

To Kona Linda - yes, this one will go to Hilo. I don't think the aurea will be open. I will be over Tuesday with this and other(s).
To Leslie - as I live in Hawaii they just grow outside year round. They are under 50% shade cloth on east side of a two story house, and so get bright light in AM and light shade the rest of the day. As it is dry on our side of the island, they are watered almost every day.

The plants must love the warmth and humidity on the island! Great growing!

Very nice! I believe H&R did the breeding on this and Harry mentioned that he fully considers this variety to be 'Rosita.'

kawamoto isn't offering any dowianas right now, and h&r isn't listing it on its inventory. a bud steered me to the orchid trail but they haven't yet gotten back to me. has it always been this tough to track down? anyone have options i should consider other than ebay (w/ which i've had an iffy relationship on plant quality)?
