New Laelia anceps hybrid
Here is a first bloom seedling from a new direction of breeding from Fred Clarke. I bought 3 of these earlier this year. The first one to bloom has 4 flowers on the spike. There is one more in spike, with 5 buds.
This is (LCN Helen Christie x Laelia anceps). Helen Christie is CTT Porcia x Laelia gouldiana, so this plant is 75% Mexican Laelia.
All 3 plants are very vigorous, having 3-4 leads each by the time they reached blooming size.

Ooh, very nice.
I am excited because I bought one of these from Fred Clarke too and it is in spike and soon to bloom. I can't tell for sure how many buds I will get. I think only a couple. Great to see this post as mine too surprised me with a spike already and was wondering how they would look. Of course I think they are seedlings, so I hope I get one as nice as yours. How big are the blooms?

Flowers do not open as flat as the anceps (that's the Porcia influence), so flowers are about 3" across.
