C. Nigritian King of Kings x Blc. Bryce Canyon
Hi! Pretty new to orchid-growing although I've done a good bit of research.
I ordered a C. Nigritian King of Kings x Blc. Bryce Canyon Cattleya hybrid in late June. It has 7 nice healthy pseudobulbs and one new growth coming up.
I've been giving it a good soak about once a week and it lives in my mud-room by a south-facing window where it gets plenty of sun.
Should I expect anything but the new growth to bloom? All of the other pseudobulbs have little green "nubs" between the leaf and the bulb with a white-ish papery-looking tip (about 1cm in size or smaller). Will these become sheathes? One of the nubs does appear to be growing...
Any thoughts?

With very few exceptions, orchids, including Catts, bloom on the new growth only.

Update: She's been doing really well. The leaf on the new growth just opened up a bit- it's still folded slightly. No sheath, but maybe that'll come later? There's also a second growth as well as a new eye which I think might be dormant.

Thanks! Do you at what point I can expect to see a sheath or spike (if it does end up flowering)?

As the new growth expands you will see whether there is a sheath at the apex of the growth. Some Catt hybrids bloom soon after maturing, and others wait a while. I'm not familiar with these parents so I don't know. But you will see the sheath as the growth matures.

Can anyone tell me if this is a sheath or just one of those lil green nubbins that don't turn into anything?

The picture doesn't look like there's a sheath. Sheaths grow out at the same time as the pseudo-bulb and leaf. As soon as the leaf unfolds, it's obvious if there's a sheath or not. Some cattleyas can bloom on fairly small plants but others need to get larger before they bloom.

Ok. The plant is fairly large actually- the photo just doesn't show it I guess. It's got 7 established pseudobulbs.
