Default Laelia anceps (finally!) in bloom

(species from Mexico and Honduras)

I got this one about 5 1/2 years ago - was NBS. I'm happy it has finally bloomed, tho would have liked more than one flower (it's a good sized plant now) - there was another sheath, but it dried up fairly early on.

The color is not what I was hoping for considering the parents ('Nittany Frost' and v. veitchiana) - but I guess that's the chance you take when you buy an unbloomed, seed grown plant

Another of my outside orchids - protected from winter rain, frost; very temperature tolerant.

Grown in medium fir bark with chunks of lava rock; 10" clay bulb pan (and climbing over the sides now) - watered when media is dry.

(Note about color in photo: the bloom is evenly colored, but was half in sun when I took the pic, causing half of the flower to look white)

Thanks for looking

Yours looks lovely.

My L. anceps just gave me first blooms too. It must be their time to bloom. It is a veitchiana 'Fort Caroline'. I'm not real thrilled with the shape or size of my blooms so I think I will sell it and wait for a pink one to come along.
