BLC Momilani Rainbow 'Margie
I purchased an orchid with the tag labeled "BLC Momolam Rainbow Mgr" and was advised on this forum by Polka that the orchid was most likely "BLC Momilani Rainbow Margie". The orchid has now bloomed and i wonder if anyone can confirm that the plant is indeed "BLC Momilani Rainbow Margie". Thanks for any info.

I'd say for a certainty its a Momilani Rainbow but as for the clonal name, I don't know of it. There are a heap of Momilani's about.

I don't recognize the flower. However, if your plant was labelled as you describe, the registered name is Blc Momilani Rainbow. The clonal name is 'MGR'. MGR was the clonal name used by Margie Robbins (an orchid grower in Florida) for a number of her select clones. Margie is the person. If the tag says MGR, that would be her plant's clonal name, not Margie.
So the plant would be: Blc. Momilani Rainbow 'MGR'

Just did a search and found that her nursery was named "M.G.R Orchids" so MGR for a clonal name could fit.
So the plant would be: Blc. Momilani Rainbow 'MGR'

on further reflection since the name Momilani was misspelled on the handwritten label how could I be sure that the clonal name is Mgr not Margie as Polka suggested ?

Whether handwritten or printed, labels are only as accurate as the writers memory. Quite often you will discover that names have been mis-spelled. As long as you have a name to start with, research in various data bases (RHS! OrchidWiz, etc.) can usually help you determine the correct name. In some cases you may need to search for photos on the internet for verification, but be aware that not all photos carry correct ID either.
Likewise, some plants are being registered with what appears to be incorrectly spelled names; one example is a Cattleya group hybrid named 'Little Marmaid'. Without knowing the registrant, it is impossible to tell whether that was intentional or not.
Finally, the clonal name. These are not registered formally, unless the plant receives an AOS award. I have known some growers, who give every single plant they have a clonal name, which is h just plain silly. Others do this only for the very best. Either way, with sloppy handwriting, poor eyesight, and broken labels, both grex & clonal names do get mutilated. For clonal names, your only options are internet & chat room searches.

In this case, there are two ways to know.
First- Mgr is written on the label! I'd say that's a dead giveaway
Second- ALWAYS listen to what catwalker808 says. He knows more than most.

MGR it is then. Upon more research I found that Margie is deceased and the nursery she owned was M. G. R.
THANKS TO ALL FOR THEIR HELP
