I was not aware, but apparently this plant can produce vanilla extract like the vanilla orchids?

Well not exactly. But it is pleasing in flavor and is comparable to vanilla. It's used in South America a lot instead of vanilla.

They do produce vanillin which is the main flavor in Vanilla pods. But Vanilla tastes different than vanillin, so there's definitely something else going on there flavor wise. I would imagine Leptotes has its own thing going on as well. Mine are almost ready to bloom and I fully intend to find out!

All blooms are open now. Still handling the low to mid 50s night temps quite nicely, and I just noticed that a new flush of roots has started from the base of the three newest leads. And now I have proof for my niece that her Uncle Steve isn't just trying to grow a "pot full of green beans."

Very nice, Steve! Floral segments look pretty broad and less twisted than most of this species.

awakedude, my Lept. bicolor develops purple anthocyanin spotting on the leaves in higher light or cooler temperatures, this is normal for many orchids and can vary in intensity from plant to plant within a species. If the spots are black or brown (not always easy to tell from purple), that may instead indicate a fungal issue.

My spotting is definitely more red than black, now that I look at it. I have moved it to an area where the light intensity is a bit less and the air flow is much greater. Below is a picture showing the spotting. This was the worst spotted leaf on the plant, it has since died back and fallen off.

It's really gorgeous. I grow Leptotes unicolor and I think I need to get one of these as well.
