Thought I would share a photo of my Encyclia tampensis alba in flower. Its a hardy orchid here outdoors in the subtropics. Easy to grow.

Lovely.
I mounted mine on a tree branch. Hopefully it will bloom next season.

Nice!. Almost makes me regret moving down to Victoria from Toowoomba.

almost

I suppose I could always hang it all and move to Cooktown ^_^ it's actually cooler there by 11 degrees today.

In saying that, I live in western Victoria, on the edge of desert and I've still managed to keep a Wildcat alive mounted in a grove of plum trees. 41 degrees today with 7% humidity and set for 40-45's 'till Friday, perhaps I'm speaking too soon.

Yeah would not be an easy job growing something like that outdoors in Vic I'm on the Sunshine Coast here. Toowoomba gets a bit cold in winter there at night but not like in Victoria.

Here we had on day over 40 C it was hottest for years and I spend the whole day watering many of my plants here. Lost flowers buds off my Vanda coerulea plant I was waiting to open. Luckily 3 of the 6 flower buds survived

We get a lot of high thirties - low forties temps here in summer. I can usually keep the greenhouse between 30-35, which seems to suit everything just fine.

This week is going to be brutal though, over 45 every day, so I spent this morning putting up extra shadecloth. Nearly bloody killed myself. 41 Degrees at 9am

I keep my growing space at equatorial, sea level temps year-round, so luckily I don't tend to lose any buds - my plants are used to the heat. My only loss so far has been a single bud off a radiata that blasted after its corner of the greenhouse got to 49 degrees. A wind storm over night had ripped a section of shadecloth clear off its corner, so the next day it was in full sun with a 43 degree outside temp.

Still, at least being so close to the desert makes for plenty of sunshine And allows me to grow hot equatorial species a lot easier than say in Melbourne, my heating bills would be insane down there.

Yeah you would be nice and sunny in that area. Melbourne is more of a mediterranean climate the winters quite cold and wet.

We rarely get over 40 C here just that one day it was 44 C broke a few records that day. Usually its in the high 30's here but we are getting less rain lately the last few years in spring/summer. Our summers and tending to be drier in the last few years. Especially early summer. The rains are coming later and later We keep missing the summer thunderstorms in our place we used to have quite regular.

Oh that's a shame I lived up the back of the Gold Coast for a few years as a kid, (Mudgeeraba), one of my favourite memories of those days was sitting at my big bedroom window watching the summer evening lightning storms roll across from the coast all the way up to Mt Tambourine.

It was beautiful, and the storms were like clockwork back then.
