I think they need much more light and a 'harder' growing season to get the 'poofies' to look better than some of the smaller less substantial bloomers need.
I workin on some poofies too ...I got a poofie Blc Lady’s Favorite ‘Morning Mist’..thats got buds and never had sheaths.. I was looking for sheaths and found buds instead. hmmmm..

Thanks everyone! This one does seem to prefer quite a bit of light.
RJSquirrel, I have some that bloom with sheaths, some without and sometimes one or the other. I happen to have one hybrid now that is for sure in a double sheath, but you could almost call it a triple sheath. It has a 'leaf' that is almost as closed up as a sheath around a double sheath. This leaf isn't just closed tight, it is fused closed except the top and an inch or two down one side. It has C. labiate in it's parentage which is known for double sheaths., so I suppose this is what is going on (maybe). First bloom for me on that one so don't know if it is normal.

I have both sheath/nonsheath blooming catts too. It seems pretty inconsistent.
So these are called poofys? lol
I love the poofys and skinnys (like the L.purpurata flower shape).
Those leaves sound like genetic deformation.
By the way, that one petal looks like it is blocked by that leaf in its back? no?
Nice color! can't wait for mine to flower, hopefully this year. haha

Gorgeous! The color is really impressing! Reminds me of a Norman's Bay 'Low' that I had many years ago.

Thanks! I got the one I referred to with double almost triple sheath as a division so I will see how it grew for the owner of the mother plant.
No, the buds have no blockage other than each other a bit. I staked both buds and tried to spread them apart a bit but they are so wide. The 2nd one is slowly but surely opening!

Thanks! Norman's Bay is a 'grandparent' of this, so you likely are seeing some of it in this hybrid.

Yeah, mines were like of like that too.
First flower was like perfection!!! then the second flower got all squeezed out on the side. lol
Even after the first flower dropped, the second flower still looked, well, not so perfect.
I sure enjoyed the fragrance and the color regardless.
