Making flower supports?

Hi all,

I have a catt that is currently in bud, they are getting a little heavy and I'm worried that they're going to droop down and break the spike. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to make a support for the flowers? I tried looking online but couldn't find any instructions.

Spikes generally won't break from the weight of the blooms, but can definitely bow. If you wish for the blooms to display better, you could use a stake.

Like Sonya said, stakes with clips or twist ties work for many types of inflorescence.

You can make a wire one with a loop with 16 gauge wire. If you want to clip it onto the pots, spiral the wire 3 times and wedge the pot between a couple of the turns.

I have seen chopsticks being used as flower supports, innovative and nothing going to waste !

My yellow catt is in bloom. I removed the sheaths completely and one of the spikes with three flowers was going to break off, but I caught it in time and tied the spike to the nearest pb using florist tape.

You can make a little Y shape out of a length of wire, slot it into the pot and then just rest the stem into the top of it
