Just bought this one and mounted as per instructions of the shopowner. There are four new growths, so here's hoping!

In Brazil, any orchid shop! In the US, honestly no idea - all I hear and read about is swamp sticks which are more or less the same thing, just more stylish.

Isurus - yes, an update:

I took it off the vase as it was way too moist the whole time and it was rotting the roots. The new growths were literally dropping off
In the two weeks that I have set it on a cork bark, it has recovered quite well. I placed just the tiniest piece of sphagnum moss in the crack of the bark where I set the plant, just to help it with "some" moisture. The roots have dried out - in a good way - and there are now signs of new green tips at the ends so all is not lost.

Shame that the cone didn't work - in this case. I think it is a question of finding the right specimen that would thrive with relatively constant moist roots. Anu suggestions?

Thanks for the update. Most Masdevallias, Draculas and many Pleurothallids would do well on something like that.

E. profusa is a fantastic species! They do like to dry quickly, so I wouldn't use sphagnum at all. All of my encyclias are either mounted or something similar. The only mount that kept getting rot was the one I added the tiniest bit of sphagnum moss to. When mounting encyclias, you don't have to be concerned about them even having any roots. As long as it has some fat pseudobulbs, it WILL put out new roots onto its new mount. Just keep it bright with plenty of air movement, and of course water early. I hope it blooms for you soon!

I had a dracula (chestertonii) but burnt it as it is just too hot where i live.
My Madevallia was in a pot with sphagnum and one day all the leaves just fell off - still green .
Curiously I have a pleurothallis on another cone - for almost a year now. It flowered beautifully and just recently, I noticed that it seems "dry" - the leaves - which occasionally fall off it you touch them. I DID move it to a less light spot in my living room, so maybe that was the problem (just switched it back now).
I am doing something wrong with my minis (methinks caring too much about them...) but will study and learn more..
My encyclia pseudobulbs seem to be fattening up a bit, there are new shoots coming out, so all seems well for the moment. I will post a pic once there is something healthy to show.
