This one looks great Betty! I have agree with Wynn though, its not a pure intermedia.
The pic by James is interesting because it is also not intermedia, but I would guess it is the same cross as Betty's. Very interesting...

I, too, think that there is a lot of variety in this species. I do know that mine was collected in Brazil in the 60's before the CITES went into effect. Since I am a hobby grower, it's name does not matter. They are BOTH beautiful! And... it is one of the most productive orchids I own!... BettyE.

With all due respect, I never depend on Google to identify any orchid. WHY? Because anyone can post any picture saying anything on Google. Anyone who has been on Google more than once, knows this! The best way to accurately identify an orchid is to: go to a reputable grower...In this case Wayne ( the head grower ) at Santa Barbara Orchid Estates. He knows exactly what cattleya intermedia looks like. If anyone is interested...take a look at the intermedias at S.B.O.E. It's interesting, too, because many of them have high flower count, AND a lot of them vary in looks. Of interest also is that my cattleya intermedia usually has between three & five flowers per stem. However all this matters not, because as long as the various owners are happy with their orchids, everything is fine! BettyE. :-)

Cattleya intermedia varies a lot in nature. This is to the degree that experienced orchid collectors or people from the forest police IBAMA can tell you in which particular forest a plant had grown when they see the flowers.
Cattleya intermedia also keeps a long rest period. But all intermedias flower to my knowledge only once a year, mostly between february and april on the northern hemisphere. Multiple flowerings would be very unusual.
In my collection I also grow a few plants of a hybrid of C. intermedia x C. lawrenceana. These plants grow and flower year round.

Lovely blooms, Betty. And wonderful to know that you've kept it happy for so many years.

I am quite fond of the appearance of this Catt. I am interested to find out where I can buy a NBS or smaller plant of this one at an affordable price.

Well I can tell you right now James, I certainly want a Intermedia catt. The more I look at their features the more I want one!
