It's Encyclia season Yay!!!!!!!!
I love this time of the year when all the encyclia's start blooming. The photo below is of Encyclia megalantha, one of my all time favorite species that you don't see very often, something about it makes me smile every time I look at it.

I have not seen this one before. How big is it? Is it fragrant?

It makes me smile too. That's a beauty. I've never seen it before. Last year at the Redlands Orchid Festival I walked into the AOS judging tent and I was knocked over by the great fragrance. I told one of the volunteers that I was trying to figure out where the fragrance was coming from. She said "Oh, that's from the encyclia table". Sure enough, that's where it was coming from.

Steve - the bulbs are about the size of small eggs the leaves are about 18 inches long, the spike is branched and somewhere around 36 inches long and the flowers are wonderfully scented and are about 1 1/2 inches.
Tucker - you will find that most of them are pleasantly scented.

Wow, that's a big boy!! I'll have to wait until I can get the space to keep a plant that size, but so much the better!

Steve - You can keep the plant small by dividing it every year.
