Default Blue Cat. intermedia aquini

It took several generations before they managed to transfer the blue color of the intermedia caerulea (which has only the lip colored) to the petals through selective breeding (some say seven generations, some nine). I like this particular clone because of the clear blue. Again, the height of the plant can be estimate by the hanging tag, which is 8cm long. The flowers in the back are not completely mature yet.

That is very unique and interesting. I've never seen a coerulea peloric intermedia and had no idea that people were trying to do this. Was this the product of a series of sib crosses and selfings?

Quite lovely Mauro, I would like to know where this plant is available. Do you know if it's available in the states?

Mauro - I don't know where you get these but they have all been so very beautiful!
You are surely a master grower of catts!!! and a great photographer, too
I can tell by your work you hold a great love, passion and pride in and with your orchids.
Keep it up!
You are producing a wonderful catalog of catts on OB that everyone can enjoy and, with great possibility, end up possessing some of the beauties you have shown us.
Thanks

CodiMN - Check out this link - The Orchid Mall - Plant Sources
Perhaps out of all of those vendors - this one may be of help - Cattleya orchids and other tropical plants from the Carolinas
Don't forget the unclassifieds - The Orchid Mall - The unClassified Ads
Good luck

Rosim has the pleasure of living in the native country of many of his plants. There are nurseries in Brazil that have many marvelous examples of these plants, and they are superior to most plants outside their country. Specific plants such as C. intermedia and L. purpurata are legendary for their varieties. Many of these are tightly held and almost impossible to find anywhere else.

Yes Phantasm, you are right. This is the product of selective sib and self crossings. The first generation started with a regular caerulea crossed with a regular aquini (dark purple). Then, intense observation of the F1 generation has indicated the clones having potential to perhaps perform the coerulea transfer to the petals and they were intercrossed and selfed. F2 and subsequent generations may have had particular clones selected and backcrossed with pure caerulea and then the next generation again intercrossed and/or selfed and so on, generation after generation. After a number of generations, one intermedia with the blue color in the petals came out.

Carolyn, I really don't know if it is available in the States, but Floralia, a Brazilian nursery, will be at San Diego International Orchid Fair, CA, in October. They accept orders from their catalog, provided the orders are placed 45 days before the show (time needed to get the documentation ready). They have several varieties of C. intermedia. If you don't find this particular one on their on-line catalog I am pretty sure that they will manage to find one here (or some) for you. After all, this is their business! Maybe talking to someone there, or sending them an e-mail would help facilitate things. Here is a link to their site: Brazilian Orchids from Florália
Good luck!!

Dorothy, so nice words I hear from you! Thank you very much. I really love growing orchids and this is a passion that lasts for 25 years now. I am proud of my plants and am happy that you have captured this in the few posts I did until now. I can say I can grow them with a reasonable degree of ability, but I have had my share of failures too, just like everybody else.
As for the photographs, I really try to picture my flowers as they are, faithfully. However, I still have lots of things to learn about photographing .
Phantasm is right, I am blessed for living here in Brazil, as far as orchids are concerned. Thank you again for your kindness.
Mauro
