Steve - Although they go thru a fairly long dry period in their natural habitat, they still receive plenty of morning mist and dew, so although I do cut my water way back, they never go for long periods without water.

Thanks for your reply, Glen. The reason I asked is that I have a spike on one of my tipo variety plants, but I have no idea what I did (if anything) to encourage the plant to flower. My coerulea walkerianas are easy and reliable bloomers, but the tipo plants in my collection are unpredictable. Some years they flower profusely, and other years they simply put on lots of new growth and refuse to bloom. I'm happy that my plant is getting ready to bloom, but it's a bit frustrating to be in the dark regarding what triggered it to bloom (perhaps the tipos are, in comparison to my coeruleas, just temperamental!).

Steve

Thanks Steve, it was hanging in a citrus tree and is covered with sooty mold, need to get around to cleaning it up. It is on it's second spike and has two more to go, guess I will wait until it finishes blooming.
