okay, all good stuff. So as to not keep fiddling with it, I'll leave it in the 4' pot for now. If I see some new growth, I hope we can all chat again. ;-)
John, I see a dot on the rhizome. Not sure if it's a new growth or a root. I'll watch it.
I repot dozens of cattleyas every week. I will say from experience there is no way to tell if the plant is potted well by just looking at it, usually you have to un-pot a plant to tell if it is potted well. As others have said, smaller is usually better so the downsize was probably beneficial.
