Spike on brassavola nodosa?
everyone,
I bought this back in the spring and repotted it and it started getting what I thought were little sheaths, then they wouldn't grow anymore, until recently. Can someone tell me if this is the beginning of a spike? The first pic is what may be a spike, the second pic is of the whole orchid. Also why do these get two leaves at times while the others only have one? Thanks for any help.
Eddie

Regarding the first picture, it looks to me like a spike, so congrats I have a small nodosa mounted, and I've noticed the leaf phenomenon too, don't know what the difference is though...

I notice the one and sometimes two leaf thing on several different cattleyas that I have. Not sure why tho. Your first picture does look like a spike. Congrats!

Many of my Catt alliance orchids occasionally get double leaves. I don't know why but they seem to get them when they are in vigorous growth. I have always assumed that it is a sign that they're doing well but I really don't know. That does look like a spike to me. Good luck.

Yes Nenella, it was a spike and it grew several more! I had a total of around 15 blooms on it and the smell was wonderful...

Spike on Brassavola nodosa?
I have a B. perrinii that is doing the same thing. When I bought it several months ago, it had what looked like a bloom spike growing from where a bloom spike would normally grow. But then it did not develop into a bloom. Yesterday I put my glasses on and looked at it a bit closer. Well, the otherwise bloom stalk is developing what ARE buds! Finally!
