I got my first catts. this summer from clouds orchids. A Blc rustic spots and an otaara Jane Fumiye HCC/AOS and the bud on my Blc. Rustic Spots started opening today! Only one flower but I think it will be beautiful! Its a lot darker colored than I expected, the picture on clouds orchids website show an orange flower with a dark red lip.

It's going to be very pretty!! I like the color and the pretty lip! Is it a compact catt?

Looks as though it will be a very nice one, Wgama. I have a fairly young plant and the bloom is quite orange. It's bloomed only twice with a single flower stem each time. I hope it becomes more floriferous in maturity. I think the colour of your's may change a little as it opens -- interesting to see!

Thanks etex! yes it is a compact catt. its only about 8 inches tall and blooms before the growth is that tall. Its kind of an undtidy plant though because of its brassavola heritage, it tends to "sprall" rather than grow straight up. Ill post a pic of the whole plant when the bloom opens.

*I would also like to add that this pic was taken with my new cannon rebel I got for x-mas, im just starting to get the hang of it.

Great choice. It looks like you got one with a lot of spots.

I love these Richard Mueller hybrids and watch their flowers go through big color changes usually going from reddish, orangish to almost pale yellow depending on the amount of sun they get. I linked to a photo of my Bl. Sunset Glory ( Bl Richard Mueller X L. purpurata) in the back of the photo showing the younger pink flowers and yellowish older flowers on the same plant.

By the way, I usually train the first few growths to grow straight next to a stake and the subsequent new growths can be tied to them with rubber bands while they are in training. Note how with a rubber band on the new growth tied to the wire tie I can very gradually pull in the young growth without putting too much pressure on it to cause it to snap.

That is so neat. It's like two different flowers on the same plant. I love it!!!

Thanks for the comments and advice guys! I need one of those Bl. sunset glories sun rm.N.E.! How long do the flowers last? I took some more pics today and the flower is starting to turn lighter at the tips of the outside petals. The flower is fully open now and even though it doesn't show very well in the pics(still dont get my new camera) the lip is hot pink and orange!

What a lot of blooms, Sun rm.! It really must like living at your house. That colour is lovely with quite a lot of pink. Here's a photo of my Blc. Rustic Spots:

Shirley, is that the flower right after it opens or does your open dark like mine then turn lighter?
