Default Another $5 HD 'baggie' makes good

This is BLC Dewey Forest 'Kudos' - a very nice, buttery yellow/amber, with good substance and a vanilla/clove scent. Well worth the five bucks.

Many people shy away from these bag babies... When I visit my mom in Florida I always make it a point to check out the supply at both HD and Lowes. As long as they don't look too old, I have no problem purchasing them. I must have bought half a dozen back in March and now they have added new growth and I hope flowers to follow. How long have you had this plant? It is beautiful and definitely worth $5.00

Hi Doc - well South Louisiana isn't Michigan...I bought this about a year ago, and divided it early this summer - that is probably what triggered the flowering.
If you get to the baggies pretty soon after they arrive, they are in prime condition; give the HD people enough time to roast or drown them, ah, not so much.
The best kind to get here are the Ascocenda hybrids, which usually bloom within a few months.
I've lucked into a few real treasures at HD (I am not much of a cattleya fan, but...) including BLC Chia Lin and L tenebrosa.
Even in the deep south, you see the occasional Masdevalia, Dracula, Miltonia - we call them "doomed".
Cheers - Nancy

Are the bag babies you purchase originally from SunBulb (BetterGro) in Florida? And yes you're not in Michigan and I think this is a big part of why I am having soooo much trouble flowering my Cattleya Alliance plants... not enough sun and not enough heat!!!!

HAHAHAHA! Boy that gave me quite a chuckle. But that $5 Catt is a gorgeous buy! Love the creamy ivory-yellow color!

I had no trouble finding and bringing home some last year...although none from hd and lowes. Sounds like the customs rules have changed this year however and I'll have to show some control when we go in March.

Sun Bulb sounds familiar, so I would guess that's where some of them come from. My suspicion is that HD/Lowe's everywhere get the same variety, whether they are a good choice for that area or not!
