This Cattleya species is very well-known world over and doesn't need much comments. If one takes the type to compare, the flower shown below has two major modifications, the wine color and the peloric traits.
I can see why!! I wasn't aware that there were colour variations within the aquinii's, I thought the aquinii was the variation, but I guess it only applies to the splashes of colour on the tips of the petals? Is that correct?

That's correct, Nick. Aquini refers to the color splashes on the petals!
