Ivan congrats on the bloom - I love this little species.

According to my records the luteola does not require a winter rest. In it's native habitat, rainfall is pretty heavy every month plus high humidity.

I grow in a g/h, it is mounted and if the sun was shining, I drenched the mount.

Hmm. Very interesting. There was a thread awhile back about species Catts & winter rests: Species Cattleya Rest Period

Looking back at it, I see that there are some differing thoughts about it. All I know is that I kept up watering regularly, and my luteola showed its displeasure by dropping leaves. I pulled back on the watering, and just did the occasional misting, and it seemed to like that better.

Yvan! It's AWESOME! I love it! I've been kind of on the fence with this one. I don't have the best luck with Catts, but I think I'm going to have to take a chance on this one! Nice job!

Yvan you are so lucky...Its a beauty. Question is it mounted? If it is how often do you water everyday? I have several mounted and they aren't doing anything but growing roots etc. NO Flowers

Again Congrats...
Sheridan

Here's just a quick photo update, and a question...

This photo was taken 3 or 4 days ago. The bloom definitely lost the green, becoming more yellow. But I was amazed that the yellow didn't pale. Most photos I see of this, the color seems a very pale yellow.

Now, here's the question...I think she is beginning to close up on me. This being my first Catt, is that a usual length of bloom-time (about 3 wks)? I kinda had the idea that she would last a bit longer.

3 weeks is a good time for a cattleya bloom...

Some varieties may last longer and some not so long. But a month of blooming for a Cat. is good. Enjoy what you have, then buy a few more then you can have "bloomers" over a longer period of time.
