freaky Catt intermedia
Hi everybody,
please, take a look to what my Cattleya intermedia did this year with her first bloom... do you think it depends on something wrong with my growing conditions?I'm really concerned about the other developing buds...

Chances are the bud was simply stressed out during bud development... can you think of anything that might have happened during its formation (heat stress, or shipping?) If all flowers end up looking like this... it may be genetic. I wouldnt worry though, I like the funky lip too

Thanks for your kind replies.
This flower belongs to a growth which developed on november, and on january it dried its sheath.Maybe temperature was not enough high to allow a bud to grow properly...I had 16 C at night and 20 C the day,so,to avoid rot,I kept the plant rather on the dry side...I hope this can be the reason.
Last year the plant bloomed normally.
I'm waiting for the next buds to open!

If it has bloomed normaly in the past, I think it's just one of those things that happens now and then for who knows what reason. I kind of like it.

First blooms often don't live up to a plant's true potential. Of course it could be cultural, environmental, or genetic, but you won't know until it's second bloom. Be patient.

I actually think the flower looks good like that. A bit more ruffling in the lip, and it can have a "double" look.

monna lisa,
The temperatures that you quoted are quite normal for this species.
Your flower looks fine!
