Sheaths aborted
Many of my catts have aborted their sheaths this fall. After an extremely wet summer, fall has been very dry and cool here in Tampa Bay. I am confused as to what would cause this. Any thoughts? They are grown in an open shadehouse uner 60% shadecloth, most grown higher up. Leaves are light green, roots look fine. Some are in large pots (8"+ = inches mostly clay or coco). Thanks Greg
First question I would ask is, Are these Catts supposed to flower at this time of year ???
Sometimes Catts will make new growth that appears to good BUT its at the wrong time of year. The sheaths appear but because its not the normal flowering time they abort. In certain climates and conditions this does may not apply. I know a grower who used to flower some Catts up to 8 times a year. It may just be the climactic condition experienced.
I agree with Roy. I've had several catts abort only to have buds form from old brown sheaths later in the year....so now I just leave them alone rather than remove them.....I'd wait and see.
