I can now confirm that it does indeed smell like a freshly opened package of bolonga! Mine decided to bloom from a sheath 14 months old.

Cattleya Luteola's funk is in the same family, but slightly sweeter.

I was sniffing it a bit more, and I'm starting to lean towards smoked salmon. Whatever type of cured meat, I would never expect it from a flower!

Now I need a luteola.... and a bagel with cream cheese to go with my iricolor.
