Virtually all LCs (and thus the L in BLCs) were based on Laelia purpurata (sometimes Laelia tenebrosa or one of the other Brazilian Laelias). When they were changed to Cattleyas, the L dropped out.
Now we are left with Rlc, where:
Rhynchlaelio refers to the digbyana ancestor
and Cattleya covers all the rest.
