Anacheilium chacaoense
Default Prosthechea chacaoensis

First bloom for me on this one. Spike took about 4 months to develop. The flower is a cream color, a little translucent, and crystalline. Looks like some expensive garment up close. Hard to capture in the photo...

Flower shape is much nicer than I thought it would be! With all the marine nicknames these "cockleshell" orchids have (octopi, squid), I wasn't expecting it to be so elegant. Quite nice to see in person.

These are supposed to have a strong fragrance, but I have not detected anything yet...

Looks similar to Prosthechea radiata which blooms in the summer or early fall (at least for me) and smells of wintergreen to me (others have less flattering descriptions of the fragrance of that species) (Genus du jour is Prosthechea) Give it a little time, sniff at different times of day, often fragrance is fleeting. Warm sun (of which we haven't had a lot lately) also helps fragrance.

Oh is it Prosthechea again? I thought it was moved back to Anacheilium. Thanks. I'll need to update some things!

I've read the comments on the "fragrance" of Prosthechea radiata... I wonder how my nose/brain will detect this one. Hope it's wintergreen for me...

Prosthechea, according to Orchdwiz which follows AOS which follows Kew. Tomorrow may be different... I don't change tags, would be far too much work and then I'd just have to change them again.
